Fanhome has revisited and updated the U.S.S. Enterprise NCC-1701-A XL, improving the model's accuracy compared with the earlier Eaglemoss release.
You could say we have "refitted the refit!"
The U.S.S. Enterprise NCC-1701-A is the Constitution-class refit starship seen in the Star Trek movies. For this new release, Fanhome used detailed reference photography of the original studio model to review and improve several elements of the previous model.
The updated Enterprise-A XL will be released in two versions:
- Standard grey version
- Special gold version
The changes differ between the Standard and Gold editions.
Standard U.S.S. Enterprise NCC-1701-A XL – What's Changed?
The Standard version has received a number of sculpt, paint, marking and detailing improvements.
Updated Sculpt and Details
- The bridge module and surrounding structure have been resculpted to better match the original studio model.
- Windows around the saucer rim have now been included.
Updated Paint and Colour Details
- The blue-grey paint now extends across the correct sloping sections around the bridge.
- The red pinstriping has been corrected so that it breaks in the appropriate places around the blue sections.
- The phaser arrays on both the upper and lower saucer have been changed from grey to gold while retaining their red borders.
- Additional colour corrections have been made to details on the upper saucer and areas along the warp nacelles.
Updated Markings
- The positioning and alignment of the U.S.S. Enterprise and NCC-1701-A markings have been adjusted.
- The registry marking on the underside of the saucer has been moved further back towards the centre.
- The ENTERPRISE lettering on the underside has been made heavier and positioned closer together to better match the original.
- The text on the rear of the warp nacelles has been repositioned further forward.
Together, these changes provide a more detailed and faithful representation of the U.S.S. Enterprise NCC-1701-A as seen on screen.
Gold U.S.S. Enterprise NCC-1701-A XL – What's Changed?
The special Gold edition also benefits from improvements made during the review of the Enterprise-A model.
Changes to the Gold edition include:
- The bridge module and surrounding structure have been resculpted to better match the original studio model.
- Windows around the saucer rim have now been included.
The Gold edition does not include all of the paint and marking changes listed for the Standard version, as its special gold finish gives the model a different appearance.
Why Does the Packaging Show the Earlier Model?
The photographs used on the packaging were taken using the earlier version of the U.S.S. Enterprise NCC-1701-A XL.
The improved model was not yet ready when the packaging photoshoot took place.
This means the model shown on the packaging may differ in some details from the model inside the box.
The model customers receive will include the applicable improvements described in this article.
Gold Edition – Subscriber Availability
The Gold U.S.S. Enterprise NCC-1701-A XL will initially be offered exclusively to active subscribers of the Star Trek Starships Collection.
The subscriber offer begins on 8 September 2026.
The Gold edition is not initially being offered as a general single-purchase item.
Standard Edition – Availability
The Standard grey U.S.S. Enterprise NCC-1701-A XL will be released later in 2026.
It will be available as a single-purchase model rather than being initially restricted to active Star Trek Starships Collection subscribers.
A maximum of 3 of the same model can be purchased per order.
Are the Gold and Standard Versions the Same?
No. Both versions use the updated Enterprise-A model, but the extent of the changes differs.
The Standard version includes the full range of sculpt, paint, colour, marking and detailing improvements described above.
The Gold version includes the updated bridge module and surrounding structure together with the additional windows around the saucer rim, presented with its special gold finish.
Is This the Same Model as the Earlier Eaglemoss Enterprise-A XL?
The new Fanhome edition is based on the Enterprise-A XL but has been revisited and updated.
The Standard edition includes a number of changes compared with the earlier Eaglemoss release to improve its accuracy against reference photography of the original studio model.
The Gold edition also incorporates the updated bridge sculpt and saucer-rim windows.
